Bannockburn, Illinois, USA - Veterinary Specialty Center (VSC) is a 75,000 sq ft locally and privatelyowned, multidisciplinary animal hospital that offers specialty services, emergency, critical care, and rehabilitation services. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, VSC provides unsurpassed healthcare for animals in a kind and comforting environment.
VSC chose RWE Design Build (RWE) as a general contractor who specializes in Veterinary clinics to design and build the new facility. RWE consulted with Michelle DeLuco, owner of FloorsMD (FMD) — a floor contractor of Northern Illinois, to assist with selecting the best flooring solutions for the project.

Upon reviewing the specifications, Michelle met with the facility owner directly to scope out the right flooring products for their areas and applications. Being such a large facility with so many different and specialized areas, using the right products was critical.
After speaking to the customer and reviewing the facility, RWE and FMD determined that the qualities most imperative to VSC were products with a high PSI, slip-resistant, hygienic, offered a long-term warranty, and easy to clean and maintain. “We were looking for a product that was easy to clean, durable and hygienic” said Jason Sanderson, President at RWE. Sitting down with Altro sales reps, the facility was presented with product data, testing results and maintenance requirements to determine which Altro flooring product would be the best to meet all the requirements mentioned above. Having reviewed all the information and several other impressive Altro installation references in the veterinary space, VSC decided to move forward with Altro Orchestra and Altro Suprema sheet flooring due to their technical specifications and design. Both products offer up to 2,000 PSI indentation and have the same 10-year warranty.
Altro Suprema was chosen for its slip-resistant capabilities and its industry-leading stain, chemical and abrasion resistance which are ideal for veterinary applications. Altro Orchestra was chosen for its attractive look and smooth surface, which is extremely easy to clean and maintain.
Additionally, VSCs new hospital has been LEED certified and both products contributed towards that certification.
VSC just recently opened their new hospital doors in October, allowing them to bring all the services they have to offer under one roof. Built on a much larger lot of land, the hospital now has plenty of room for their doctors to provide top-notch, 24/7 medical care. The new Altro flooring can help ensure that the facility can continue to provide the highest level of service without disruption.
This project was awarded a LEED Silver Certification for sustainable design.
