For areas where there will be regular spillages, we recommend a moisture-tolerant adhesive. AltroFix A19 Plus is a two-part polyurethane solvent free adhesive that, once cured, is not affected by spillages or water and other liquids.
Altro Stronghold 30 reduces the risk of a slip to one in a million, even with grease, oils and fat. At 3mm it is cushioned for comfort underfoot to reduce fatigue, ideal for staff working long shifts. When used with Altro Whiterock, it creates a hygienic, impermeable, HACCP-approved system. Altro Stronghold 30 can withstand spikes in atmospheric temperatures from -30°C to +60°C so it can run from the kitchen, into the freezers. For industrial food and drink production, consider a resin floor such as Altro Crete, which has excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals including organic acids found in foodstuffs.
We offer weld rods that match our flooring, plus training on this and every aspect of installing an Altro floor. The right prep is essential here – for more information, take a look at our blog.
Altro Whiterock and Altro Stronghold 30 complement each other perfectly. Both can be sealed or hot-welded to produce an attractive, hygienic and water-resistant system. A range of transition trims are available to provide an ideal finished detail between the wall and floor. Vinyl clamping drainage outlets are also an important feature of the correct installation techniques and will help ensure the longevity of the completed installation. Install Altro Whiterock after the flooring has been fitted, and ensure that the flooring is protected during this process to avoid damage and adhesive residue from the walls coming into contact with the finished floor. Available in a wide range of colours and finishes and up to 20-years guarantee, this hygienic, wipe-clean walls system makes spaces look good for the long term. You can find our downloadable installation guidance here.
A cove former is fitted at the junction of wall and floor before the flooring is installed. Use of this profile enables the flooring to be coved up the wall to the required height before the Altro Whiterock is fitted to complete the system. Once adhered, this helps ensure a watertight, hygienic seal between wall sheet and floor. We recommend that the cove detail is fixed using a contact adhesive - please consult your preferred adhesive manufacturer for guidance.
A concealed transition strip, is mechanically fixed or bonded to the wall before the Altro Whiterock wall sheet is fitted. This produces a small rebate at the base of the wall panel allow the Altro Stronghold to be fitted neatly into place up behind the wall sheet. Using a concealed transition strip allows water to run off the walls and onto the floor without causing damage or breaching the junction between wall and floor. An additional advantage is that should you want to replace the flooring at some point in the future, this can be done without removing the Altro Whiterock sheet. Silicone should be used when back-filling all Altro wall sheet and Altro floor fittings. For more information on the concealed transition strip, watch our short film
Altro Whiterock can be hot welded with a co-ordinating weld rod. Once welded all exposed edges and abutments should be sealed with AltroMastic, in a co-ordinating colour, to complete the system. For full details on how to do this, we have a short video. Follow this by silicone-sealing all abutments and exposed edges.
Altro Whiterock is designed to be bonded 100% to the substrate with adhesive. In addition we recommend that a butyl tape is used top, middle and bottom of each sheet, to help support the weight of the panel until the adhesive has cured. A band of Altro W165 primer should be applied to the corresponding areas on the wall that are to receive the butyl tape. See this installation step in action here.
You have a choice of adhesive depending on the surface you are installing Altro Whiterock onto. AltroFix W139 is a two-part polyurethane adhesive that can be used on most absorbent and non-absorbent surfaces. It is specifically designed to provide maximum strength in areas subject to temperature fluctuation and those subject high humidly such as commercial kitchens, food preparation and local authority swimming pools. Alternatively, AltroFix W157 is a single-part high strength acrylic adhesive suitable for porous surfaces only. For details on how to prepare, mix and apply Altro adhesives to our wall sheets, see our installation guide.
Altro Whiterock should be installed on a surface that is sound, dry and free of contaminants. See our short video on setting out your wall sheet.
This is a quick and simple way to join Altro Whiterock wall sheets together in a way that cannot be removed once the sheet is fixed. Single part trims are designed for hospitals, care homes and other areas where the trim could be removed and used to harm the individual or others. Unlike with the two-part trim, a small chamfer is applied to the sheet to make it easier to fit the single part trim.
Two-part trims are effective for use in general purpose applications outside of critical care and secure areas. They work by overlapping the exposed edges to create a neat, hygienic finish.
To seal the small expansion gap between the Altro Whiterock and the ceiling, simply use a co-ordinating Altro silicone sealant, ensuring that the wall sheet has been cleaned first and that the protective cover has been removed. Watch our short video.
Thermoformed corners look great and, because there is no break in the sheet, are a more hygienic way to fit around corners. We work on thermoforming in our Altro Whiterock training school. For a quick refresher, take a look at our two minute video.
Behind ovens, cookers and other sources of heat above 60°C, we recommend the use of stainless steel fixed with Altrofix W139 adhesive. A stainless steel transition trim is also available for use at the junction of the Altro Whiterock and the stainless steel panel. Your supplier will have installation guidelines and make a recommendation regarding adhesives but, in our experience, Altro W39, the adhesive you will be using for the Altro Whiterock sheets will be suitable. To transition between the splashback and the surrounding wall sheet, we offer a specially designed trim.
Remove any units that are not fixed while the floor is being installed. For those that cannot be removed, we recommend the area between unit and floor is coved (see point 5) to prevent moisture or debris being trapped under the unit.
The best result is achieved by removing the sink before fitting the floor, putting the co-ordinating colour mastic in the fixture holes and screwing the sink back in. If the sink can’t be removed, the floor will have to be cut to fit around it and then coved.
Our doorsets are custom-made, hygienic and low-maintenance. They also meet the necessary fire standards for a commercial kitchen. Available to match your chosen shade of Altro Whiterock, they are ideal for kitchens: no door swelling or water damage! To help protect staff and passers-by from accidents, we recommend choosing a vision panel. Opting for hinges which allow the door to open both ways is also recommended to help staff who have their arms full. We offer a straight-forward doors installation guide here.
Once the walls sheets have been installed, use mastic in a co-ordinating colour to seal to space between the sheet and the door frame.
Simply measure where the socket or light switch is and cut the Altro Whiterock wall sheet accordingly using a jigsaw, and following all recommended health and safety guidelines. For guidance on setting up your work station, see our video.
Simply drill into the wall sheet and fit the unit on top. For any electrical wires, simply drill a hole in the desired spot.
Vinyl clamping drainage systems must always be used. Lift out the clamping ring, or linear section where applicable, and spread the appropriate amount of AltroFix 19 adhesive, dress the flooring down into the body of the outlet, before repositioning the clamping section and securing it into place.
