Décor inspiration: kitchens

Commercial kitchens are areas that see heavy use. There is constant and heavy footfall throughout the day, and contaminants and chaos become part of the norm for those who work in them. Keeping them safe and hygienic on a daily basis is not always an easy task, but with the right flooring and wall lining in place, it can become significantly easier.

With constant foot traffic, sharp knives, hot equipment, and the ever-present risk of spills, durable flooring with non-slip features is going to make it a far safer and more effective environment to be working in.

Surfaces also need to be easy to clean and maintain, with robust materials that can last a long time and withstand the daily pressures of people coming in and out all the time, banging pots and pans into them, hot steam in the air, and more.

Commercial kitchen flooring

When considering flooring for a kitchen environment, something that isn’t going to have grouting or small pockets of space where dirt and debris can hide, and fester, is going to be a big priority. This immediately eliminates tiling or stone flooring and leaves you with a choice largely between vinyl flooring and linoleum. But with lino being made out of cork and sawdust layers it’s not really suitable for places where liquid is likely to regularly come in contact with it.

An excellent vinyl option for these sorts of settings, is Altro Stronghold™ 30. Offering specialist safety for kitchen and food prep areas, it has the highest level of slip resistance we offer so that it can deal with grease, oils, and fats and still provide an excellent level of grip and safety for a hectic working kitchen.

It’s also cushioned underfoot to offer greater support and comfort to busy hospitality workers who have to be on their feet all day. By helping reduce fatigue and minimising the risk of treacherous slips, Altro Stronghold™ 30 can help maintain productivity, safety, and comfort within a catering area. It also comes in a range of colours, from those that are similar to grey concrete right through to bolder and more pronounced designs.

Wall Panels and Lining

What lines a kitchen’s wall is also of great importance, as it needs to be heat resistant and strong enough to deal with cookware clattering into it and the constant barrage of swinging doors being used, sometimes without a great deal of care or attention. It’s also good to be able to spot any dirt or food splatter on the walls, that can then be easily wiped off and sanitised.

A good place to start, when looking for suitable wall lining in these circumstances, would be Altro Whitrock White™. A high-performance alternative to tiles, it’s ideal for kitchens thanks to its lack of grout, impermeable and impact resistant nature and pure white finish for clarity on cleanliness. Made from food safe PVCu polymer that can handle temperatures up to 60°C, it’s a stain resistant and wipe clean surface.

Altro Whiterock Satins™ offers a greater range of colours for cooking and food preparation areas while Altro Whiterock Splashbacks™ are the perfect solution to more residential kitchens that need just a little extra protection around cooking and cleaning surfaces.
