Established in 1970 on traditional Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc territory, Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is dedicated to empowering their student body to achieve academic excellence in a diverse, inclusive environment. The Kamloops, BC campus offers hands-on and digital learning options as well as personalised student services for its 200 available courses. TRU’s Old Main building scheduled a renovation to optimise the facility’s layout to create two new classrooms and upgrade the existing technology, lighting, acoustics and air quality. It was crucial that the rooms were modified to support different teaching and learning styles, with ample space to reconfigure desk and seating arrangements if necessary.
TRU collaborated with Stantec Architecture, Erv Parent and Jordans Flooring Outlet on the Old Main renovation to accommodate the needs of its students and staff. It was essential that the new flooring could endure the stress of consistent foot traffic and needed to be installed quickly and efficiently to conserve time.
Altro Cantata was used throughout the Old Main’s corridors and stairways. Being an adhesive-free system, this meant that flooring could be welded and walked on the same day without any adhesive curing time.
The firm also chose Altro Walkway 20 to provide essential slip resistance in the facility’s toilets. This versatile, hardwearing safety flooring is heat welded preventing bacteria and moisture from accumulating below the surface during routine cleaning and disinfecting.
Creating maximum impact with minimal downtime, Altro Cantata is installed using our revolutionary adhesive-free system, allowing it to be welded and walked on the same day over blank substrates as well as existing flooring products. This range utilises Altro Easyclean™ technology to reduce dirt pick-up and staining, improving the floor’s scuff resistance while making it easy to clean.
Altro Walkway 20 is a versatile, hard-wearing safety floor which has been a contractor favourite for over 30 years, as it’s easy to install. With a varied colour palette of 30 shades, Altro Walkway™ 20 co-ordinates with Altro XpressLay and offers a slip-resistance of PTV ≥36.
Altro Cantata was chosen mostly because the construction schedule was so tight and there was little time to remove huge amounts of existing VCT tile. This flooring could be applied directly over existing flooring with no adhesive.
