A global sporting event, held in London in 2012, had the aim to be the greenest games ever held. With sustainable development, reducing carbon and zero waste as key objectives, the design team specified Altro XpressLay throughout the event sporting arenas. Owing to the floors re-use potential, after use it was gifted to St John’s Primary School in Kent who needed a new floor for their ‘Corridor of Champions’.
Installed without adhesive, when the sports event was over Altro XpressLay was easily removed and re-used elsewhere. As the floor had once supported sporting heroes it was the perfect fit for the bold and colourful entrance area and corridor, which uses colourful imagery inspired by a world map on the floors and walls.
Altro XpressLay is a carbon saving solution, which can be installed over an existing floor covering or on fresh concrete solution. It is fully recyclable, and can be easily removed and re-used – as it has been at St John’s. In addition to the flooring, Altro Whiterock Chameleon™ wall cladding was used in the school’s reception area. It provides a water-tight, wipe-clean, smooth and durable surface, and is perfect for feature walls. St John’s has made the most of the bold colour palette by having the school badge digitally printed onto the walls.
