Delivered for Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust with Murphy Philipps Architects, VINCI Construction, and Sir Robert McAlpine, the £55 million development showcases how collaboration and thoughtful design can transform mental healthcare environments.
Altro’s integrated wall and floor solutions played a key role in creating safe, therapeutic, and visually calming spaces. The project features Altro Illustra™ in corridors, bedrooms, and open communal areas; Altro Whiterock Satins™ in seclusion rooms and ensuites for seamless, hygienic wall protection; Altro Pisces™ for bathroom flooring, and Altro Walkway™ 20 in kitchen zones.
The modern, purpose-built facility has welcomed patients since January 2025, providing state-of-the-art inpatient mental health care for adults. The design was shaped through consultation with patients, carers, and staff, ensuring spaces that support wellbeing, dignity, and privacy.
“I saw first-hand the dedication of the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust team on Rivers. In amongst the day-to-day challenges of maintaining the existing buildings, they delivered this new build that has been a real step change for the service users and staff of Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust and their families and carers.
