Over the last 15 years, the scheme has transformed the way our industry deals with waste vinyl flooring - turning it into a valuable resource rather than landfill.
Since its launch, Recofloor has collected and recycled over 7,250 tonnes of vinyl flooring. That’s the equivalent of around 2.4 million square metres of material - enough to cover 332 football pitches.
The environmental benefit is just as impressive, avoiding more than 8,500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, the same as taking 2,200 cars off the road for a year.
The recycled material is given a second life, being turned into new flooring or traffic management products, keeping resources in use for longer and reducing the demand for virgin materials.
Altro co-founded Recofloor with Polyflor to give the industry a practical, cost-effective recycling route. As our Innovation and NPD Manager Tracy Perry explains:
“Recofloor plays a vital role in helping manufacturers take responsibility for the materials they put on the market. We’re proud to have been part of its journey from day one.”
The 15-year milestone was marked at a special sustainability event at the Belfry Hotel & Resort in Warwickshire. Hosted by sustainability expert Chris Hines MBE, the event brought together contractors, distributors, and manufacturers to celebrate achievements and share ideas on pushing recycling even further.
Awards were presented to members who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to the scheme, and case studies were shared on how Recofloor has helped projects reduce waste and cut disposal costs.
Recofloor’s success shows what’s possible when the industry works together. For Altro, it’s another step in our wider sustainability journey - finding practical solutions that deliver both environmental and business benefits.
With 15 years behind us and thousands of tonnes of vinyl saved from landfill, the focus is firmly on the future: making recycling the norm, not the exception.
