Altro Whiterock Digiclad
Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Center (SMOC) in Chesapeake, VA, teamed up with design firm PF&A Design to find a wall product for their corridors, but your standard white hospital walls weren’t going to cut it. Needing something with more flash and style the two set out to find the perfect mix of practicality and customization: and their answer was Altro Whiterock Digiclad.
Sporting the same durability as a standard Altro Whiterock wall panel, Altro Whiterock Digiclad allows anyone to add their own image to the wall through digital imaging, the perfect solution for when an extra dash of customization is desired.
SMOC, founded in 1984, has been providing quality orthopaedic services to southeastern Virginia for over 30 years, with five total locations including two other offices in Suffolk and Belleharbour, VA.
When PF&A Design took on the job, they decided that the product needed to be both fit to print graphics on and smooth and shiny – they sought to create a glowing effect when lights were shined on the panels.
Kimberly Bernheimer, Associate Principal at PF&A Design, said that they could have printed on Acrovyn wall panels, but it would have produced a matte finish – not a design they were looking for. And it was too thin: Altro Whiterock Digiclad looked like it “had some substance” and didn’t appear cheap.
“We wanted something with a little depth,” Bernheimer said.
Altro Whiterock Digiclad is created by reproducing vector artwork (or a high resolution photograph) onto Altro Whiterock wall panels. Hard-coat technology provides scratch-resistant properties for added surface protection. Because the images are printed on Altro Whiterock, the wall retains its durability aspects.
In addition to the Altro Whiterock Digiclad panels, the project called for Altro Dolce Tile in service areas. Altro Whiterock Digiclad was the perfect product for their desired combination of function and aesthetic.
