Pennsylvania, USA - Founded in 1995, The Glen is a part of the Willow Valley Communities network that presents aging residents with a mind, body and spirit approach to wellness built on the value of Lifecare. This unique concept entitles every resident within the community to short and long-term care, if needed, at no additional cost, encouraging them to “embrace the possibilities of a Life Lived Forward.”
The Glen provides a range of support services including short-term rehabilitation from surgery or illness as well as specialized memory care for individuals coping with Alzheimer’s and other cognitive disorders. The facility also offers physical, occupational and speech therapies via its in-house nursing staff. An on-site spa and beauty salon, lounge area and fully equipped country kitchen allow residents to enjoy the comforts of home while promoting their physical and mental wellbeing.
To continue its mission of designing programs and places fit to people, Willow Valley enlisted CCS Building Group to manage its Glen expansion project beginning in 2018. Where this addition would require specialized surfaces that could meet the needs of the community’s residents, the firm collaborated with its regional Altro
representative, knowing Willow Valley’s history of using Altro products during previous renovations with proven success.
Throughout its completion, the Glen project incorporated multiple Altro solutions into its design. For resident rooms accommodating those receiving skilled care, CCS chose Altro Wood smooth sheet flooring for its warm, residential aesthetic and underfoot comfort. In the facility’s recreational area, Altro Serenade provided both ample underfoot comfort and integrated sound insulation to help reduce excess noise.
Back-of-house solutions for The Glen included a fusion of Altro Stronghold 30 safety flooring and Altro Puraguard wall cladding among other Altro ranges. Used in Willow Valley’s first kitchen three years prior to the expansion, Altro Stronghold 30 achieves Altro’s highest slip resistance rating and is designed to minimize risk in
areas where liquid and grease contaminants are a common issue. Meanwhile, Altro Puraguard is a durable alternative to traditional FRP panels, boasting impressive impact resistance and an easy-to-clean, non-shedding hygienic surface.
For resident bathrooms and shower areas where supervision is minimal, safety is the highest priority. To address this concern, CCS selected Altro Aquarius safety flooring for its high slip resistance value for both shoe-soled and barefoot use. Like any of our sheet flooring ranges, Altro Aquarius utilizes heat-welded seams to prevent water ingress as well as bacteria and contaminant accumulation below its surface, protecting the subfloor from potential damage while promoting resident and staff hygiene.
