The floor in the main communal areas at The Lawns, a family-run care home in Quedgley, Gloucestershire, was starting to look tired. Its manager, Anna Carrier, was worried about infection control, hygiene and cleaning issues. The facility decided that a new flooring solution that retained the building’s originality while looking warm and homey would be the best option for replacement. It also needed to make the residents feel at ease in their environment while also taking into consideration their sensitivity to adhesive odors and disruption.
C&C Flooring was selected to install the new Altro flooring at The Lawns in the ground floor circulation areas, dining rooms, lounges and reception. Roo Williams, Managing Director of C&C Flooring, wanted to ensure adhesive-associated odors were kept to a minimum and the installation was achieved quickly. Altro Wood adhesive-free in Urban Cherry was chosen for the renovations, allowing the installation to be completed in half the normal time of an adhered floor.
“We have used other Altro adhesive-free floors for a few years now, and the new Altro Wood adhesive-free product is fantastic,” stated Williams. “It looks great, and it complements the care home perfectly. Installation is so much quicker because we are not waiting for adhesives to cure and it can go straight down onto the existing floor, so there is minimal disruption for residents.”
The Lawns staff were equally pleased with the facility’s upgrade to Altro Wood adhesive-free. “We love the new flooring because it’s easy-to-clean and reduces noise in the building, but mostly because the wood visual is lovely and so welcoming,” explained Carrier. “It’s also very comfortable to walk on, and this is so important for our residents. Overall the flooring fits exactly with what we want to achieve.”
