Altro Tegulis

Welcome to our page of Altro Tegulis frequently asked questions. We have tried to address many of your queries but please contact us if your specific question is not answered here.

A.   Altro Tegulis is a tile-effect wall cladding sheet that is designed to be used in any area where ceramic tiles are currently used. From bathrooms in care homes, hospitals, schools, universities, and domestic adaptations through to retail spaces, all these areas and more will benefit from the advantages offered by Altro Tegulis.

A.    Responding to customer feedback, we wanted to offer a true alternative to traditional ceramic tiles for wet rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and retail spaces – but, without any of the unpleasant drawbacks of tiles. Unlike porous grout used in traditional ceramic tile installations, the grout lines etched into Altro Tegulis’ surface are impervious to moisture meaning there is nowhere for dirt to hide, allowing for easy cleaning and disinfecting.

A.    Altro Whiterock is our proven, high performance, hygienic system which is impact-resistant, impermeable, grout-free and easy-to-maintain. Altro Tegulis uses our existing Altro Whiterock Satins or Altro Whiterock wall designs ranges to replicate the look and feel of tiles using innovative custom-etched grout lines eliminating the cleaning, repair and hygiene issues often associated with traditional tiles.

A.    Altro Tegulis uses the standard 2500mm x 1220mm Altro Whiterock sheet. However, to fit the published tile sizes of the different tile patterns onto the sheet, the finished wall panels may be slightly smaller and/or narrower compared to the base sheet. For detailed dimensions, please refer to Altro Tegulis product page.

A.The Altro Tegulis wall sheet has several benefits over a traditional ceramic tiled wall finish:
  • Altro Tegulis is quicker to install than traditional ceramic tiles; the large sheet area allows quicker
  • coverage and there is no need to return to site to carry out a secondary grouting process.
  • The etched “grout” lines of Altro Tegulis are impervious to moisture and very easy to keep clean meaning there is nowhere for mould to harbour, and the discolouration so often associated with cementitious grout with ceramic tiles is just not there.
  • The tough, robust, and flexible nature of Altro Tegulis means that it is far more resistant to knocks and bangs; no cracking or chipping that can often be seen with ceramic tiles. This, combined with the easy to clean “grout” lines of Altro Tegulis makes the material a more hygienic solution.

A.    Altro Tegulis is available in 11 different designs, two mosaic designs, a standard square tile design, four metro tile designs, a herringbone design, a chevron tile design, and a hexagon design.

The metro, herringbone, chevron, and hexagon tiles are all available in two separate formats, a vertical layout and a horizontal layout.

A.    Initially the Altro Tegulis sheet will be available in 6 colours:
  • White
  • 5 Altro Whiterock wall designs colours: Antique Copper, Cool Mineral, Urban Mineral, White Mineral and Warm Woodgrain.

More colours will be made available so please refer to the please refer to the Altro Tegulis product page for current information.

A.
  • Altro Tegulis is installed in a similar way to the existing Altro Whiterock sheet. The material is fully bonded to the substrate giving a tough and robust finished surface.
  • Joints between sheets are sealed behind the sheet using Altro sanitary sealant, ensuring a watertight and impervious wall finish
  • Full installation instructions can be found here.

A.    There are two styles of jointing that we recommend with Altro Tegulis.
  • Firstly, there is the integral half-lap joint. This is used in wet areas and where high levels of humidity are present. This joint consists of an engineered edge to the sheet that matches a corresponding section on the adjacent sheet. Altro sanitary sealant is applied to one side of the half lap and on the back of the corresponding sheet around the edges. These two half laps then combine with each other to form a secure and watertight joint.
  • Secondly, the interlock joint is used on certain tile design patterns such as the metro and herringbone designs. The edge profile interlocks with the adjacent sheet giving an almost invisible joint between sheets. This jointing solution is ideal for dry environments.

For a full list of jointing methods available for the various tile patterns, please visit the Altro Tegulis products page.

A.    We do not recommend thermoforming Altro Tegulis as this may warp the tile effect look. For internal corners the sheet can be butted into the corner and sealed with silicone sealant,. External corners can be fitted using the External Tegulis Trim (A953).

A.    Yes, a Festool and pressure guide is the best method, however a jigsaw fitted with a fine-tooth metal cutting blade or fine-toothed handsaw can also be used for more intricate sections to be cut.

A.    Cleaning of the Altro Tegulis is easy and straight forward: we recommend weekly cleaning using a soft cloth, water, and diluted household detergents. For more stubborn stains, we suggest diluted AltroClean 44. You can find full instructions here.

A.    Start/edge trims, cut tile transition trims and external Tegulis trims are all available for the Altro Tegulis.

A.    Altro Tegulis is manufactured to order and is usually supplied within 4 weeks from acceptance of a written quotation.

A.    Altro Tegulis can be used in almost any area that a ceramic tile can be used. However, we do not recommend that the material is used behind any intense heat sources such as cooker hobs.
