Portland, Maine, USA - Fallbrook Commons is a new, two-story, 57,000-square-foot senior living community designed to accommodate 102 residents. It includes 26 private rooms, 12 corner suites with private living areas and shared bathrooms and 26 semi-private rooms.
In partnership with Gawron Turgeon Dillon Architects P.C. (GTD), Fallbrook Commons was designed to provide a safe, warm and comfortable community for aging adults. Understanding the importance of floors and walls in creating welcoming environments for senior living, GTD Architects specified Altro products for the project.
The building’s design and layout cater to the needs of residents, staff and visitors, featuring three distinct neighborhoods. Two neighborhoods are located across two wings on the first floor, while a third neighborhood is accessible via elevator. Each neighborhood boasts unique interiors that enhance wayfinding, along with amenities such as a staffed kitchen, dining tables, comfortable living areas for socializing and relaxation, nursing stations for immediate care and an outdoor courtyard for enjoying Maine’s seasons. This modern design provides residents with a sense of autonomy while ensuring that necessary care and amenities are within easy reach
For wall protection, Altro Puraguard was installed in the commercial kitchen, delivery corridor, soil rooms, commercial laundry rooms, janitorial rooms and medical rooms. This hygienic PVC wall cladding is highly impact-resistant and known to withstand damage normally caused by laundry carts, food carts and maintenance equipment. Also, its homogeneous construction camouflages superficial scratches, keeping the walls attractive long after their installation.

Altro Lavencia LVT was selected for the resident room flooring and provides a seamless transition to the Altro Aquarius flooring in the resident bathrooms. The 20-year warranty and 28 mil wear layer holds up perfectly in this setting and the wood-look visual matches the aesthetic of the rest of the building. Altro Lavencia LVT is a stylish, low-maintenance flooring option that will last through its lifetime, even in areas with consistently heavy traffic.
Altro Aquarius was chosen as the flooring for the spa rooms, showers, and resident room bathrooms. Safety of residents and staff is the number one priority when designing wet spaces and Altro Aquarius was selected because it has a lasting performance in wet and dry environments, shoes or barefoot.
